MIDI Control of Stage Lighting

MIDI and DMX, a very popular communication standard in stage lighting, do have some interesting similarities. Both have grown well beyond the modest goals of their creators. MIDI was first envisioned as a way to connect two keyboards together. DMX was intended to replace the thick analog cable running from lighting consoles to dimmer racks.

Basic FM Synthesis

This booklet was written to help students to learn the basics of linear FM synthesis and to better understand the Yamaha DX/TX series synthesizers. It is not intended to be a complete course of study on either FM synthesis or the DX7. There are already several very comprehensive books plus a fairly substantial users' manual that provide a mountain of information.
